Coverage for You

Individual Health Insurance

Health insurance you buy for yourself — whether you're between jobs, early-retired, working for yourself, or simply not covered at work. We help you compare real plans from national carriers and find coverage that fits your budget, at no cost to you.

What individual health insurance covers

Every major medical plan sold to individuals is required to cover the same ten essential health benefits — so you're protected for the care that matters most, not just emergencies.

  • Outpatient care — doctor visits and everyday procedures
  • Emergency room and urgent care visits
  • Hospital stays and surgery
  • Pregnancy, maternity, and newborn care
  • Mental health and substance use treatment
  • Prescription drugs
  • Rehabilitation, physical therapy, and medical devices
  • Lab work and diagnostic imaging
  • Preventive care — annual checkups, screenings, and immunizations at no cost when in-network
  • Pediatric services, including dental and vision for kids

Marketplace plans, off-marketplace plans, and subsidies

The plans sold on the Health Insurance Marketplace and the plans sold directly by carriers are the same plans at the same prices — the marketplace is simply where financial help you may qualify for gets applied.

Depending on your household size and income, you may qualify for a premium tax credit that lowers your monthly premium — and, at some income levels, help with out-of-pocket costs. We'll estimate your eligibility before you enroll, at no charge.

Plans come in four metal tiers — Bronze, Silver, Gold, and Platinum. As a rule of thumb, higher-tier plans carry higher premiums but lower costs when you use care. We'll show you which tier actually saves you money based on how often you see a doctor.

How much does individual health insurance cost?

There's no single answer — your premium depends on your age, where you live, the plan tier you pick, whether you use tobacco, and, most importantly, whether you qualify for subsidies. Many people are surprised by how much financial help they qualify for once we run the numbers.

What we can promise: our help costs you nothing. You'll see real plans with real monthly premiums, deductibles, and out-of-pocket maximums — and an honest comparison of what each one means for your wallet, not just the sticker price.

How we help you choose

  • Compare real plans from national carriers side by side
  • Check that your doctors, specialists, and medications are covered before you enroll
  • Estimate subsidy eligibility and apply it to your premium
  • Explain the fine print — networks, referrals, and out-of-pocket caps — in plain English
  • Stay with you after enrollment for billing questions, coverage changes, and annual re-checks

Common Questions

When can I enroll in individual health insurance?

Marketplace Open Enrollment runs from November 1 through January 15 in most states. Outside that window, you can enroll within 60 days of a qualifying life event — like losing employer coverage, getting married, or moving. Medicare has its own enrollment periods, and we'll make sure you don't miss yours.

Does it cost extra to buy through an agent?

No. Carriers pay agent commissions, and your premium is the same whether you enroll on your own or with our help — so you get a licensed human in your corner at no additional cost.

Can I keep my current doctors?

In most cases, yes — but networks differ plan by plan. Before you enroll, we verify that your doctors and preferred hospitals are in each plan's network so there are no surprises at the front desk.
